Generally, street photography creates candid portraits of the people on the street to tell a slice of humanity’s story. While street photography is usually candid in nature, candid photography is not necessarily street photography. I really like street photography and tremendously enjoyed taking these pictures. I hope you will enjoy seeing them too. In the close-ups and street scenes I tried to capture expressions, moments, colors and atmosphere of busy city and its people.

Different people have different methods. Jeff Spirer has some great BW street shots. They are more natural though because he establishes a repoir(sp?) with them first. I believe he favors mild wide angle lens (from what I can discern from his images) such as the 35mm.

There are other ways to get candid shots. Just take some general shots in the area and when they lose interest, and go back to what they were doing, take a candid. If you know for a fact that it is common and acceptable in the society to take photos of scenes with people, then just take them and if someone objects, be friendly, show them the photo and ask if they want it deleted.

I am developing my technique and wish to get closer to subjects, including people to get better atmosphere, mainly candid shots.
