Cyst under breast

Do cysts in breast go away on their own? What do breast cysts feel like? Sebaceous breast cysts are totally benign (non-cancerous) and have nothing to do with breast cancer. These type of cysts do not increase breast cancer risk in any way.


A cyst is a sac that contains, air, fluid or semi-solid material.

One breast can have one or more breast cysts. A breast cyst is a fluid-filled sac within the breast. In texture, a breast cyst usually feels like a soft grape or a water-filled balloon, but sometimes a breast cyst feels firm.


A cyst in the breast may feel like a lump, but upon examination the lump is a small, generally harmless sac filled with fluid rather than a cancerous or benign lump of cells. You may have one cyst or many cysts that appear together. A subareolar breast abscess is caused by a blocked duct or gland inside the breast. This blockage can lead to an infection under the skin.

On ultrasound a complex breast cyst will basically be treated in terms of internal echoes, presence or absence of posterior enhancement, thin septations, and a thickened or irregular wall.
