Rocker arm stud torque

IMPORTANT TECH NOTE - it is highly advisable to determine what the optimum rocker arm stud length is for your particular application. This is especially true when “long” pushrods and valves are employed – you should raise the “installed height” of the rocker arm to compensate for the longer-than-stock components. Rocker arm studs should be torqued to ft.

The use of studs offers greater clamping force and also requires a torque sequence (and lubricant) as recommended by the manufacturer. ARP is adamant about using a special moly lube or ARP thread sealer for use with their stud packages. ALWAYS follow the manufacturers instructions for best. As such, standard rocker adjustment procedure, from a service manual, is what I recommend.

The rocker shaft or ball stud mounting serves as the fulcrum point around which this motion occurs, and the relative length of the rocker arm on each side of the center fulcrum determines the lift ratio of the rocker. The advantage of using higher ratio rocker arms is that the same cam lobe profile can produce the total valve lift for more power. The head bolt torque is 2inch pounds. I am able to get the engine to turn over better. Make sure the intake and exhaust pushrods are in their proper locations.

Install rocker arm on rocker stud. Be sure that the pushrods are seated in the lifter and rocker arm seats. Do not tighten the polylocks or set screws until you go through the proper sequence of lifter adjustment. Either way, be careful, as the heads are aluminum. You do not want to over tighten these bolts.


Step 3: Oil the pushro rocker stud threads, rocker arm and nut. Check clearance through the entire lift range. Use clean engine oil to lubricate the rocker arm shaft bolt threads, tops of the push rods, rocker arms and rocker arm shaft.
