Absolute standard deviation

Form each observation, you subtract the mean (deviation), compute its absolute value, sum these absolute deviations and divide by the number of observations. May I ask how you got the uncertainty values? Also, it also depends on what level of study you are doing it at - the methods which you do it actually differ. There is a version of a standard deviation where you do do that.


Its not called the standard deviation though.

Its called the mean absolute deviation. More true to the words than standard. This number is always stated as a positive number. For example, the first sample, has an absolute deviation of which is its difference from the mean average of 6. A value equal to zero shows that the value is the same as the average, while a high value with regard to other deviations shows that the value is far from the other data.
