Urban schools

When thinking of high need schools , the first thing that comes to mind for many people is the image of an inner city school, crowded and poorly funded. The truth is, while this is a stereotype and many urban schools perform exceptionally well, there are still urban schools across the country that are in high need of teachers and resources. Many Americans believe that urban schools are failing to educate the students they serve. Even among people who think that schools are doing a good job overall are those who believe that in certain schools , conditions are abysmal. Since, on average, urban public schools are more like-ly to serve low income students, it is possible that any differences between urban and non-urban schools and students are due to this higher concentration of low income students.


Much has been written about the poor academic achievement among students in “urban”, “minority” and otherwise coded schools over the past decades.

However, the conversations about the heightened challenges facing students in urban public schools must recognize that on average, percent of.
